Front-Only, Front-and-Rear or 3-Channel: Which Do You Need?
Dashcams come in three common setups. The right one depends on how much coverage you want and your budget — here's the plain-English version.
Front-only
One camera on the windscreen, facing forward. It covers the most important angle — what's ahead of you — and is the most affordable. Good if you mainly want evidence of what happens on the road in front.
Front-and-rear (2-channel)
Adds a second camera at the back windscreen. This is the most popular choice because it catches rear-end bumps, tailgaters and reversing incidents too. For most drivers, this is the sweet spot.
3-channel
Front, rear and a third camera — usually interior-facing (great for e-hailing drivers) or a side angle. Choose this if you drive for a living or want maximum coverage.
