Do I Need 24-Hour Parking Mode on My Dashcam?
24-hour parking mode (also called parking surveillance) lets your dashcam keep recording while your car is parked and switched off. If you've ever come back to a fresh door ding, a scraped bumper or a hit-and-run in a car park, this is the feature that would have caught it.
What it actually records
Most cameras use motion or impact detection while parked — when something moves close to the car or bumps it, the camera saves a clip with a timestamp. Some higher models record continuously. Either way, you get footage of what happened while you were away.
Do you really need it?
It comes down to where your car spends its day. Consider parking mode if:
- You park on the street or in public/mall car parks often
- Your car has been scratched or hit before with no witness
- You leave it at the office or LRT park-and-ride all day
If your car mostly sits in a locked home porch, normal driving-only recording may be enough — and you can always add parking mode later.
Will it drain my battery?
This is the number one worry, and the honest answer is: not when it's wired properly. Parking mode needs a hardwire/OBD connection, and we install it with built-in voltage protection that automatically cuts power off before your battery drops too low. That keeps it safe even on older cars — you'll still start fine the next morning.
